DOHA: Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has dispatched fresh aid worth QR720,000 for victims of sectarian violence in CAR.
Some 33,000 Muslim citizens of CAR in Kore camp in N’Djamena, capital of Chad, will benefit. Many camps were set up near Chad borders to receive the Muslims fleeing the ethnic cleansing by militias in CAR.
The funds were raised through donations from Qataris. The aid has been distributed in collaboration with local charity partner in Chad, Al Rashad Development Association and other civil society organisations.
It comprised basic foodstuff, including corn, sugar and edible oil, for two months. There is shortage of humanitarian supplies. The health condition of some refugees is deteriorating due to malnutrition.
The fresh aid is part of a drive RAF launched three years ago when the crisis began in CAR. So far, RAF has provided medical and food aid and set up tents for refugees.
The initial figures show that over 100,000 people took refuge in Chad while the number of migrants is increasing, RAF said. RAF urged the public to donate through its collection centres or by calling hotline 55341818.
