BANGUI (LNC) – Fabrizio Hochschild, the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for CAR and representative of the UNDP tried to reassure people on humanitarian response communities in Bambari:
“The first thing that has to be said is that humanitarian workers have not been withdrawn from Bambari. They are still there pretty much very present. What has been done was a reduction in the number of staff. A decision taken for security purpose, to protect the humanitarian staffs, but also to ensure their operational effectiveness.
It is not the same thing operating in a situation of peace and normality, and doing it in situation of conflict. But at no time we have abandoned Bambari. We just simply adapted our presence to reflect the urgency of the situation.”
