BANGUI (LNC) — The Charles De Gaulle bvd, the major artery heading into downtown Bangui City, was blocked Yesterday, by taxi-moto riders’ with barricades made with burned tires; and with support of residents of the 7th arrondissement (sensitive neighbourhood where lives the interim President).
Because of the death of a 20 yrs old taxi moto rider, assassinated by police elements of the Office central de repression du banditisme (OCRB).
However, witnesses testimonies about circumstances related to the death diverge.
According to Thierry Polendji, the taxi moto riders discipline Authority in the 7th :
«On Yesterday (Monday 16), the Police followed this rider, then bring him down, to at least crush him to death », he said.
For other witnesses:
«No, Polendji talked rubbish, He had not even been there during the timing of the shooting. What happened is that around 6 PM, this young man was driving home when he has been stopped by the OCRB Director’s car, Robert Yekoua-Kette. It is him who coldly killed this poor guy ».
Lastly, it must be pointed out that a ministerial order on the grounds of public safety, prohibits taxi motos to circulate in Bangui beyond 6 PM.
For the police forces, the young rider did not comply with this order, set up to prevent terrorists and their backers from carrying out attacks.
However, Robert Yekoua-Kette, also nicknamed ‘The Sheriff of Bangui”, has in Bangui the bad reputation of being trigger-happy.
